The first episode of Bleach: The Millennial War begins with Soul Society noticing the disappearance of numerous Hollows almost simultaneously. That Substitute Shinigami seems to be back in action, and from headquarters they decide to reinforce the patrols. During one of these, two young novices are attacked by brutal hollows. On the brink of death, unable to even react, they are saved by the return of Kurosaki Ichigo and his team.
After clearing out the enemies, Ichigo and the others take their two new friends to safety. Finally healed, when they wake up, they witness the group’s hilarious skits. However, the serenity and joy of the moment are interrupted by a mysterious man. The room from Kurosaki Ichigo welcomes an unwanted guest.
Spurred on to fight, Ichigo finally decides to use his bankai, but for some strange reason the enemy is convinced he can cancel it.
