# 01 Advent Day
Kamisama ni Natta Hi Chapter one begins with the answer to an unknown question. During a change of scenery, Youta has a special encounter with his friend while playing basketball: “Odin”, an omniscient god, appeared before him. This “god”, more like a girl in cosplay than a nun, insists on playing basketball but without actually playing it he is just showing that the world will end in 30 days. Neither Youta nor his friend believe him, but Youta can’t just leave her, so he takes her with him. They spend the day together and Odin constantly shows his omniscience, although it does not help Youta in his relationship with Izanami, his childhood friend. What he succeeds in predicting is that he would get permission to go to Youta’s house.
background
This season brings us an original production of Jun Maeda, the genius behind stories like Angel beats! Y. Charlotte. Kamisama ni Natta Hi, also known as “The day I became god”, Is a memorial project for the 10 years of Angel beats! and the 5 years of Charlotte. While this is true Jun Maeda is a founding member of KEY and one of the minds behind several of his productions, Kamisama ni Natta Hi it is actually his third original work.
In addition to the three animes mentioned above, Maeda did not actively participate in the scripts of the other productions under the seal of KEYWhat he’s done is work with music. So if we need to talk about the background to this story we just have to rely on the two original stories from Maeda and not in the full catalog of KEY.
What does that mean? It just means we can’t guarantee or deny that this is the tearful anime of the season. While this is true Angel beats! It’s a very sad series that is balanced enough with the weird moments that it brings with it. For his part, Charlotte It’s an anime more fun than sad without a doubt, the sad note is for Ayumi and as you know this is resolved as quickly as it happens. Both stories have an ending, though I wouldn’t say happy if I called it hopeful.
In putting this collection together, I bet this story will repeat the formula and give us a fair amount of laughter and tears. This first chapter is the test, the jokes and auctions are totally in style Maeda. Even the revelation of the end of the world has the emotional weight of its predecessor. I fully remembered Otonashi hearing that he was in the “afterlife” and Otosaka discovered that he is not the only one with special powers.
But even this is all a guess of mine, after all, this is an original work and I would by no means underestimate the genius of Maeda. Anyone who, as a graduate in psychology, has shown us that they have an unparalleled ability to represent a person’s heart. And I don’t limit myself to the script, as I am not participating in the script of ClannadWe owe him the emblematic “Dango Daikazoku”, who is already able to snap up tears. And since he’s in charge of the songwriting for this production, we can expect great things. The plus, of course, is that the studio in charge is PA Works. From now on we can feel the quality.
The beginning of the end?
Now, if we talk about what we discovered in this first episode, lay the foundations. I think the most striking thing is the announcement of the end. Starting a story with a preset ending is nothing. Regardless of the future development, one thing is completely doomed: The world will end in 30 days. While it isn’t something we have to take literally either, there are several ways we can interpret it, including Hina’s explanation of why the end of the world. Regardless of which interpretation we want to give at the moment, two aspects are presented from now on: save the world or enjoy the remaining time.
At first glance, it doesn’t seem like a very sophisticated scenario, but it has thousands of possibilities. While I am speaking of two aspects, the reality is that in both of these ways there are endless consequences for the story to unfold. But as I mentioned earlier, I know the previous works by Maeda We can almost predict that the road ahead will not be the easiest, although it will certainly be full of pleasant moments. At the moment we can only count the remaining days, the number of this week is 30 days to the D day.
Now it is true that we have a countdown, but that doesn’t mean anything unless there is a good start to that count. So this chapter offers a great introduction to the main characters and executes the title perfectly. Advent is the arrival of a great change that may be due to an important event or a new era. That is what is presented in this beginning. Hina came to disrupt Youta’s life, and certainly not just to be his. The undeniable charisma of the self-proclaimed omniscient goddess goes well with Youta’s friendliness, together they initially form a rather comical duo. Which leaves only one to wonder about the future how strong this bond will be between the fun-seeking goddess and the young man she has chosen to share the last days of the world.
In your last days
I just can’t get away from this issue, you can’t blame me, it’s all about this dilemma: what to do with your last days in the world before it ends?
I don’t think it’s an easy subject to deal with because while the only certainty we have as humans is death, that doesn’t mean we are seriously thinking about it. I mean, how many people do you really know who live their day like the last one in their life. We are aware of our own mortality, but we don’t live with it. Only in extreme cases, such as eviction, do we really think about what to do with the time left to live. Because of this, a sudden doomsday decision seems like a bad move, and to Youta, it doesn’t even seem close to real. But who could blame him, common sense is not easy to ignore.
After all that, I have to judge that Youta ultimately has a certain amount of gullibility in it. If not, he would not have responded to Hina’s words to confess to Izanami. For a split second, I take Hina’s words about the end of the world as true and rely on her feelings. If the world was really going to end and he didn’t convey his feelings, it would be really unfortunate. But hey, it’s one thing to convey them and quite another to get them accepted. In any case, Youta’s desire for this self-proclaimed omniscient goddess reveals a lot about her personality, for example, she’s not really someone who is very calculating, in fact, she’s pretty simple and a bit goofy. We can also appreciate that he is someone who is totally emotional that his desire for “love” confirms this.
This couple’s choice of how to spend their already beginning days, whether to maintain that course or turn on the road, is already a separate affair.
Final comment
Kamisama ni Natta Hi Chapter One was an episode full of varied emotions, not so much because of the content of the episode itself, but also because of the anticipation for this premiere. May this story have Jun Maeda Behind this is a huge incentive for more than one person to give a chance with their eyes closed. We know their work and believe in it. And I can say with confidence that this launch has certainly met those expectations. The quality of the jokes, the weight of the suspense and the expressiveness of the main characters were a success to lift the curtain on this story.
Before I close on this review, let me consider myself a fan of Hina. I don’t like Lolis, but she won my love. This duality between very clever and completely stupid simply fascinated me. But I’m not only happy about Hina, I also love the script. The puns with the gods and the nod to Norse culture with Odin were a delight.
So far I’ve left the usual questions on the review: What did you think of this chapter? Did you like this premiere? What was your favorite moment in this chapter? When Hina said she was going to become Souseki and Youta encouraged her with a pat on the head, that scene brought me to life. However, in the next chapter you will see Hina’s arrival at Youta’s house and why her mother allowed her to go. When we guide my way through the official website, we’ll also meet Youta’s little sister who has to make a film. This will be the new pretext for Hina to bring Youta closer to Izanami. It sounds to me like we’re laughing a lot.
