Eiichiro Oda created a varied and multi-layered combat system for the world of ONE PIECE. We have the devil fruits that give unique powers, special sword skills, skills like haki that can improve attacks, and fighting styles like rokushiki or even that Fishmen’s karate.
As the name suggests, Fish Man Karate is a primarily offensive martial art that was born from the underwater creatures called the Fish Men. In ONE PIECE we saw that it is mainly used by them, with Jinbe one of the most famous exponents, but humans can also use it, as Koala revealed.
This fighting style uses the surrounding water to deliver unstoppable and effective blows to the opponent’s body. Since the human body consists to a large extent of water, anyone who knows how to use fish people karate can deliver fatal blows even against opponents who have great physical resilience or are immune to certain blows due to a devil’s fruit.
If you have an excellent command of Fish Man Karate, this can also be properly exploited on land. Since water control is essential, its destructive power in water is enormous, but above sea level it can still work thanks to the water present in the atmosphere.
In Manga and in the ONE PIECE anime, there were nine characters to use: Kuroobi, Capote, Tansui, Jinbe, Hody Jones, Hack, Aladine, Sebastian and finally Koala, the latter the only known person to date with this martial art. Thanks to Jinbe, we recently saw him in action in the chapters of Oda.
