From the first chapter it was clear to readers that The Attack of the Giants wasn’t going to be a happy and joyous series. Already looking at the line of drawings, dirty and rough, which emphasized the horror side of the giants, and then going through the topics covered, it was clear that Isayama wanted to draw a heavy series full of sad moments.
It is no coincidence that there have been many deaths in The Attack of the Giants, each more touching than the other, but there are also moving scenes that have nothing to do with the death of a loved one. So what are they? five saddest scenes from The Attack of the Giants? Let’s retrace the manga and therefore also evaluate the final chapters to understand what those moments are.
Let us begin with one of the last most powerful scenes, which is presented in chapter 131 “The March of the Giants”. In this chapter, Eren recounts his thoughts in a flashback after a long time and shows the divergence between the will to save the island and the fate in which he has to kill all people outside the walls. leads him to it, Ramzi. to destroy, the child he had saved a few years earlier, and a discrepancy between the death of the citizens and his freedom.
Let’s go back to the beginning of the series with the first meeting between Eren and Mikasa, focuses on the memories of the latter. The bandits’ massacre of the little Ackerman family opens up many developments and affirmations, from Eren’s character to the sadness of having to kill to save himself.
Then there’s the return from the first adventure outside the walls when the Scout Army and their soldiers first encountered the female giant. Mentally ruined and with so much fewer men, Levi had already seen the bodies of his friends, including Petra, in the forest of huge trees. Except that Petra’s own father approaches the captain and asks him very clearly if he wants to marry his daughter. However, Levi’s expression of sadness and horror makes us understand what the situation is like.
Let’s go back to another flashback, this time with the Past of Grisha Jaeger. Eren’s and Zeke’s father had to endure so much and once again with a path of corpses we saw him break free between manipulations and various events, but not without a great dose of sadness with every single event.
Finally a moment that should be full of hope, but which is in hindsight one of the saddest of The Attack of the Giants. The recapture of Shiganshina was an important victory for humanity, who will eventually reach the sea on the wings of enthusiasm and freedom. A moment full of joy and smiles for Armin and Mikasa, but not for Eren. The protagonist was already aware of his own fate and also that the walls had been torn down, but certainly not the cages that were holding them. His last gesture, this finger pointing towards the horizon with a certain expression, marks the horizon final transformation of the protagonist and the moment when everything was nearing its end.
