That from ONE PIECE is a fantasy world, which Eiichiro Oda was able to characterize very well. There are many islands on this mostly aquatic planet, each with their own culture and traditions, and this is emphasized very strongly by the mangaka.
The vastness of this world allowed Eiichiro Oda to include different elements. Wano is known to be inspired by feudal Japan with its pagoda castles, the stories of samurai, ronin and ninja, its oriental city streets and many customs of the time. Obviously there are no manga in the strict sense in ONE PIECE, but Eiichiro Oda put a very explanatory note in the latest tankobon released in Japan.
In the ONE PIECE Volume 105 SBS, Eiichiro Oda answers a question from a fan who asked a question about “Emonogatari” or illustrated stories that appear during the Wano saga. Oda responds by stating that the illustrated stories shown are like manga, but without the concept of speech bubbles and text clouds, but with images flanked by some sentences and dialogue. It is therefore the Manga version of ONE PIECE and of course it’s Wano who made them.
Also, Eiichiro Oda states that there are stories like “Sora the Warrior of the Sea”, “The Dog of Fire”, “Pokémon”, “Monkey Ball” and “Marco-san”. In many cases it is immediately obvious Similarity to real titles like Pokémon, Dragon Ball and Sazae-san, with Oda, who also did some little previews, which can be seen in the image below. Did you expect this presence in ONE PIECE?
Also in this volume’s SBS, Oda explains the origins of Zoro and Chopper’s ability to heal SMILE.
