In the last few hours, one of the most coveted prizes for the medium has been awarded in Japan. The selection committee i Winner of the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awardincluding in the Shonen category Call of the Night and Blue Orchestra.

Funded by the publisher of the same name and born in 1955, is the Shogakukan Prize for Manga is one of the most important awards of the manga industry. There are currently four categories that categorize awards by genre and objective.

To win the 68th edition of the Shogakukan Manga Awards in Shonen category were Call of the Night and Blue Orchestra, manga series by Kotoyama and Makoto Akui, both published by the same publisher sponsoring the event. Call of the Night was adapted into an anime series in the summer of 2022, while the Blue Orchestra anime is expected to release later this year. The two titles beat the competition of a Shueisha title. Sakamoto Days was also among the nominees for the coveted Japanese award.

To triumph in the category “Best Manga for Kids” was Ui x Kon by Minori Kurosaki, in terms of price “Best General Manga” to triumph was medalist by Tsurumaikada. To win the last assigned category, which by “Best Shojo Manga” was instead Ashita, Watashi wa Dareka no Kanojo by Hinao Wono. Titles published by Shogakukan raked in awards, with Medalist being the only winner published by another publication, Kodansha.

Each of the category winning titles received an award bronze statuette and a cash prize of 1 million yen, equivalent to about 7 thousand euros at the current exchange rate. The 67th edition of the Shogakukan Manga Award was won by Komi Can’t Communicate.
