On September 14, 2021 the Yu-Gi-Oh! celebrated the 25th anniversary of the publication of Takahashi’s manga on WSJ, the foundation on which one of the world’s most popular trading card games was born. Although the series has received new animated adaptations, the community continues to prefer the original story with Yugi Muto as the protagonist.
The iconic first season of the anime, with Yugi and his companions facing the tournament organized by Maximillion Pegasus in the Kingdom of Duelists, and the constant rivalry between the protagonist and the world champion of Duel Monsters, Seto Kaiba, resonates in the memory of many fans who will be happy to know that the first official website, by Toei Animation and from 1998, is still active.
This is certainly an important piece in the long history of the franchise, and while it has aged quite a bit, the simplicity of the user interface and most importantly, the contained information they have nothing to envy to today’s services. It is also interesting how the picture on the front page shows a kaiba with green hair and cards with a purple backrather than brown as it will be later in the final version of the anime and game.
Multiple pages and submenus are now lines of code, but if you better search within the site you can get the date of first article published on April 4, 1998, in relation to the recap of the original anime, with the image of little Yugi trying to solve the Millennium Puzzle that his grandfather gave him. Finally, remember that following allegations of racism, a fan introduced himself to Yugi as the god of destruction from Dragon Ball, and we’re leaving you to an awesome cosplay dedicated to Mai Valentine.
