In a stunning twist for fans of Satsuki Nakamura’s light novel series twitter X, ““Though I am an inept villainess: tale of the butterfly-orat body swap in the maiden court”,” Toho Animation has confirmed an important announcement slated for March 17. This news comes on the heels of speculation that the franchise is preparing for an anime adaptation.
First published by Ichijinsha with illustrations by Kana Yuki in December 2020, the light novel series continues to captivate readers and has since been adapted into a manga by Ei ohitsuji, available through Comic Zero-Sum since the same month.

In the opulent interior cut of the kingdom of IS lies the prosperous court of maidens, where the Empress and four imperial consorts are chosen among five prominent clans. Among them, Reirin Kou stands out as the perfect candidate to become the future Empress, with her unparalleled virtue and elegance. However, beneath her pristine exterior lies a fragile constitution that sets her apart from the delicate butterfly of the court.
In stark contrast, Keigetsu Shu is seen as a simple sewer rat, a source of shame for the maiden court due to his bitter envy towards Reirin. During the night of a rare kite sighting, Keigetsu’s jealousy reaches its peak, and in a moment of despair, he attempts to kill laughing from a balcony. Though Reirin is rescued in time, Keigetsu is imprisoned and awaits his execution.
What nobody suspects is that before being captured, Keigetsu casts a spell to exchange bodies with laughing, intending to seize everything that belongs to him.
