It is not uncommon for mangakas to marry each other. There aren’t many examples considering that most of them choose to keep their love life a secret. However, there is one couple from the 1990s who are well known to all the public and who once even performed together Cover of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Everyone knows Bastard the manga of the dark god of destruction who is enjoying an anime on Netflix right now. But Kazushi Hagiwara has nothing to do with this marriage, or at least only remotely, because two of the most influential mangakas of the 90s met at a dinner at his house: Yoshihiro Togashi and Naoko Takeuchi. The former had successfully achieved fame thanks to the publication of Yu of the Spectres in Weekly Shonen Jump, while the latter was a diva thanks to the publication of Sailor Moon in a Kodansha magazine.

A few years of engagement between the two and then the wedding. What the future Hunter x Hunter writer almost never immortalized had his picture taken with his new wife, and some of those shots even ended up in the world’s most famous manga magazine. Weekly Shonen Jump published an issue entitled Wedding Edition On the cover he put a black and white photo of Togashi and Takeuchi, newly married, then details and statements about the situation. Below you can see some images from this period edition, complete with a caricature in which the two authors’ mascots are at heart, the same treatment then reserved for the wedding photo.

An unusual practice but more popular at the time as mangakas landed on the cover of Weekly Shonen Jump several times.
