The author Satoshi Mizukami announced that the manga Hoshi no Samidare (Lucifer and the cookie hammer) will have an anime adaptation that will premiere during the 2022 summer season (July through September). Nobuaki Nakanishi (Koihime Musou, Mahoujin Guru Guru, Kasimasi – girl meets girl) takes over the direction in an unspecified studio.
Mizukami noted in his statement that the anime will adapt the entire manga while also being credited with writing and overseeing the scripts in collaboration with Yuuichirou Momose (My first girlfriend is a girl, infinite dendrogram, so I’m a spider, so what?).
Mizukami began publishing the manga in the magazine Young Our King from the publisher Shōnen Gahosha in April 2005 and finished it in 2010. He would later publish the manga ghost circle between May 2012 and March 2016, followed by planet with As of April 2018 and is currently on the last sheet. The latter inspired an anime adaptation in July 2018.
Synopsis for Hoshi no Samidare
One day, student Yuuhi Amamiya is approached by the talking lizard Sir Noi Crezant. Crezant immediately begins a fantastic story: the powerful sorcerer Animus intends to destroy the Earth with his “Cookie Hammer”, a huge device floating above Earth’s orbit. Earth’s only hope rests with the princess and her beast knights, whose task is to protect the princess and defeat Animus.
Elected a Lizard Beast Knight, Yuuhi, despite his misgivings, is quickly forced to fend off a mage-created golem. He is rescued by his neighbor, Princess Asahina Samidare, and swears allegiance to her. However, the princess has no intention of saving the earth at all. He tells Yuuhi his true motivations: stopping the Animus from destroying Earth, and then destroying the planet by his own hand. The pair continue to battle attacks from Animus’ golems while the remaining beast knights slowly gather and learn to use their powers. But Yuuhi must decide for himself whether to follow the plans of Asahina, whom he approaches, or save Earth. In doing so, he must also face his true self and find out where his true loyalties lie.
