On September 24, 2021, the day before the start of UFC 266: Volkanovski vs. Ortega, the fighter decided to recharge herself during the weighing ceremony by imitating the iconic gesture of the Scouting Army and “offering her heart” to mixed martial arts. Unfortunately, the fighter was defeated by meeting the Brazilian Taila Santos, eleven years younger and only one defeat in nineteen fights, but his performance was impressive and certainly would have made Captain Erwin Smith proud.
Roxanne Modafferi is no stranger to this kind of homage. A little over a year ago, the wrestler appeared at the weighing ceremony wearing Luffy from ONE PIECE and defeated her opponent Andrea Lee on points. Likewise Ronda Rousey, a former world-famous martial artist, has expressed his love for anime multiple times, as have champions Israel Adesanya, Demetrious Johnson and Josh Barnett.
