On the official Twitter account for the anime Hakushon Daimaou 2020, the new anime based on the 1969 production, Hakushon Daimaou, it was announced that the issuance of new episodes will be delayed.

According to the statement, changes in programming respond to the effects of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on production. The staff expects to resume broadcasting new episodes on June 20.

On the other hand, the series premiered on April 11 through the Japanese channel Yomiuri TV and celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the series released in 1969. This anime inspired a sequel titled Yobarete Tobidete Akubi-chan released in 2001, as well as a live-action film released in 2013.

  • Sumire Morohoshi like Akubi, the new protagonist of the story.

  • Koichi Yamadera as Hakushon Daimaou, replacing the voice actor Tooru Oohira, who passed away in 2016.

  • Hiroko Kanasugi (Diabolik Lovers MB, RobiHachi) is in charge of writing the scripts for the series.
  • Suzuka Yoshida (Nanchatte Vampiyan, Yobarete Tobidete Akubi-chan, Mach Girl) is making the original character designs, and Shin Takemoto together with Masatsune Noguchi they are adapting these designs to animation.
  • Takamitsu Shimazaki, Hiroshi Sasaki and Teppei Shimizu are responsible for composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Hakushon Daimaou 2020

The anime's story unfolds 50 years after the events of the 1969 anime, with Kan-chan's grandson Kantarou Yodayama meeting Akubi as she is on her way to becoming queen. In the human world, Katarou and Akubi go on multiple adventures, get jobs, and learn the importance of dreaming.
