Despite some production controversy Chainsaw Man was one of the most popular anime adaptations of 2022. Studio MAPPA has made a splash again and the series inspired by Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Shonen splatter manga may soon find international recognition.
The jury ofAnnecy International Animation Film Festival has revealed that the television anime of Chainsaw Man is among the nominees in the TV Movies category. The first episode of Studio MAPPA’s anime published on Crunchyroll will compete for this very important award.
Annecy is the oldest and most famous animated film festival in the world. In fact, it was born in 1960. This year it will take place from June 11th to 17th in the French city of the same name where the event is held.
With Chainsaw Man, MAPPA signed the Shonen of the Year, but will it be enough to be recognized in Annecy? The chainsaw man has to clash with the CGI animation series Oni: Thunder God’s Tale from California studio Tonko House. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s series won’t be the only one to represent Japanese animation. Live&Bell and Mech Cadets also compete in the TV Movies category. Instead, Tongue competes in the short film category. In 2021, a Super Dragon Ball Heroes trailer was shown for the 60th Annecy. What surprises does this year’s edition hold?
