The new anime Sword Art Online, titled Sword Art Online: Progressive and inspired by Reki Kawahara's novel series of the same name, will not be a television series as previously expected. but a movie set to be released in 2021. A-1 Pictures showed a new trailer a few minutes ago confirming that the protagonist will be Asuna Yuuki.

You can take a look at the teaser below, which also shows that the film is titled Sword Art Online The Film: The Aria of the Night Without Stars. Kawahara's work is extremely detailed and long-lasting, so it is possible that the film could limit itself to suggesting a retelling of the first narrative arc from the point of view of Kirito's partner, possibly including some battles that have been removed from the main series.

The direction of the film is entrusted Ayako Kawano (High School Fleet, The Seven Deadly Sins The Movie: Prisoners of Heaven) while Kento Toya (Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of the Underworld, The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments) draws the characters.
