Marvel Comics has announced that John Romita Jr., son of one of the most influential cartoonists in Spider-Man history and designer of unforgettable spider tales himself, will return to illustrate Spider-Man’s main title, Amazing Spider-Man, from April 2022.

In support of the announcement, Marvel has released an unedited illustration of Romita Jr. (available below), which features Spider-Man circling the skyscrapers of New York in his classic costume. Currently, Peter Parker is out of action in the comics, replaced in his role as Spider-Man by Ben Reilly, who works for Beyond Corporation. We know that the afterlife era will end with the fight between Peter Parker and Ben Reilly in March, and Designed by Romita Jr., it will be a completely new barrel.

Romita Jr. debuted as a cartoonist on Amazing Spider-Man in 1977, illustrating several episodes of Spider-Man and Co-creation of characters like Hobgoblin, Madame Web and Morlun. His last Spider-Man story was in 2009’s Amazing Spider-Man 600.

However, his works do not stop at Spider-Man: Romita Jr. also illustrated for example Daredevil: The Man Without Fear (based on the texts by Frank Miller), the Saga of the Eternals by Neil Gaiman and Kick-Ass, the series written by Mark Millar and published by Icon Comics.

The appointment with the Spider-Man by John Romita Jr. is therefore scheduled for next April. Meanwhile, to stay on topic with Spider-Man, a box set containing all of the Spider-Man films, including the most recently released No Way Home, has been announced.
