Robert Kirkman, famous cartoonist and author of The Walking Dead and Invincible, was on behalf of his publisher Skybound Entertainment on the acquisition of the Licenses to publish Transformers and GI Joe comics, currently owned by IDW Publishing.
We previously reported that IDW will lose the Transformers and GI Joe licenses from 2022, although the news has not been confirmed. According to a recent Hollywood Reporter report, the Skybound Entertainment is about to acquire these licenses from Hasbro, the company that owns the rights.
IDW Verlag, the it would slowly lose many of its licenses that made it famous, including that of Star Wars. Skybound, on the other hand, is quickly acquiring numerous rights to publish ownership-based comics such as LEGO, Summoners War, and Trover Saves the Universe.
Robert Kirkman appears to be a fan of Transformer and GI Joe’s IPs, but even if a deal is struck, however, the author would not be involved in writing the comics. If Skybound gets the licenses, the new Transformers and GI Joe comics won’t see the light of day until 2023.
In 2023 the return of the Transformers can also be seen on the big screen: In fact, the new Transformers film The Awakening has been postponed.
