Believe it or not The coronavirus pandemic is canonical in the Pokémon anime series, or at least that seems to confirm the brief message the writers left in episode 70. In the episode from Friday 11th it is possible to notice a clear reference to Covid-19.
In episode 70 of Pokémon Explorations, Team Rocket tries to get rid of a Morpeko who doesn’t want to leave them alone and try to convince Ash and Go to catch him with a Poké Ball. In a scene that occurred in the first half of the episode, Jesse and James pursue the duo to find out what the best position could be to leave Morpeko. and while stalking James hides by pretending to read a newspaper.
As you can see below, some fans took the time to translate the buttonhole of an article that apparently reads: “S.We will fight the coronavirus! Peace and love!“. In short, a lovely Easter egg that the writers left to snatch a smile from the fans. You can see the scene in question below.
Pokémon Exploration continues to surprise in a season that was truly full of unexpected twists and turns and sudden quotes. We remind you that episode 71 will air in Japan on Friday June 18th, marking the beginning of a narrative arc dedicated to a legendary Pokémon.
