Considering that Eiichiro Oda has been in the business for almost thirty years, he has found himself in many situations as a prolific mangaka. Some of these are productive, obviously all are related ONE PIECEhis first and – probably – only effective manga that he has put his whole life into.
During the production of ONE PIECE, there were several moments when the mangaka struggled, sometimes helped. Why of course Oda does not work alone, to be able to count on the editors of Weekly Shonen Jump, who have supported him in the more than 25 years of his publication. There are cases when the editors of the magazine have to give the mangaka a nudge, get angry when the work isn’t done well or wasn’t finished on time. And especially regarding the latter there is an interesting anecdote about ONE PIECE.
In 2015, editor Sugita, who was covering the series at the time, was annoyed that Eiichiro Oda submitted a late manuscript. However, when she received it and started reading it to revise it, the negative feelings disappeared and instead she began to cry and be moved: That was it Chapter where Rebecca meets Kyros. Eiichiro Oda himself admitted in 2020 that he was moved when drawing.
It seems a long time since Dressrosa, but this event seems to have it tagged both the editor Sugita and the mangaka, since it is an anecdote that they carefully told. And who knows if there hasn’t been a similar production-level moment in the other ONE PIECE sagas considering the emotions the manga is capable of unleashing.
In 2015, editor Sugita was upset with Oda for submitting his manuscript so late, but when Sugita received and read it, he cried because the chapter where Rebecca meets Kyros was so touching. Oda herself cried while drawing.😭 (2020) pic.twitter.com/Ig8uoZMBRL
