Luffy’s Devil Fruit’s awakening led to unforeseen consequences. The Straw Hat Pirate also changed his character during the fight, but the new powers don’t seem to help him that much, at least on the surface. The protagonist of ONE PIECE however, he knows that each attack from Kaido wears him out more and more.
In return, he continues to resist and attack, and now he seems determined to end this with a huge punch. This attack could destroy not only Kaido, but all of Onigashima due to its size. As you can see in the final table of ONE PIECE 1047, the fist is actually larger than the flying island, so Luffy delegates defending the landmass to Momonosuke. But it is not just this scenario that needs to be pursued.
ONE PIECE 1048 will have to wait a long time. Weekly Shonen Jump’s hiatus for the Golden Week moves the chapter back a week in which we’ll see the continuation of the fight. At the same time, however, Eiichiro Oda will tell how the castle is cleared of the flames thanks to the water manipulated by Jinbe. As for Orochi and Komurasaki, the latter could be saved in extremis by one of the Foderi Rossi, perhaps a Kawamatsu that has been seen very little so far. The focus, however, is the fight between Luffy and Kaido: the end seems near and far at the same time. Oda seems to want to solve some minor situations first and then lead Luffy to victory. So his shot might not be the last.
