The official site for Kohei Horikoshi‘s manga adaptation, “Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia),” just dropped a sick new trailer for the franchise’s fourth original movie. This epic new flick is titled “Boku no Hero Academia: The Movie – You Are Next,” and it’s hitting the big screens in Japan on August 2nd.

This ain’t your regular rerun; we’re talking a brand-spanking-new story, straight from the brain of the man himself, Kohei Horikoshi. He’s overseeing this non-canon adventure that’s gonna unfold right alongside the anime’s seventh season, premiering May 4th in Japan.

  • A world wrecked by hero-villain throwdowns, crawling with Datsugoku, those who’ve busted out from enemy lockups. As our hero Deku and the baddies gear up for the ultimate showdown, a massive incident shakes the world to its core. “You Are Next” – what’s that even mean?
  • The second teaser visual is out, flaunting a massive golden All Might statue. With a tagline challenging the Symbol of Peace, it’s got UA’s Hero Class 1A – Deku, Bakugou, Todoroki, Uraraka, and Iida – plus a dude who’s a dead ringer for All Might, all looking ready to rumble. What’s gonna go down in this movie? The visuals are popping with energy.

Horikoshi kicked off the Boku no Hero Academia manga in Weekly Shonen Jump back in July 2014, and it’s been a wild ride, hitting its final arc in March 2021. The anime, brought to life by BONES studios, has been slaying it since April 2016, with six seasons under its belt and a seventh on the way.

A World in Crisis

The movie’s story takes place in a world ravaged by battles between heroes and villains. A new threat emerges, causing chaos. The second teaser visual shows our favorite UA Class 1A heroes—Deku, Bakugou, Todoroki, Uraraka, and Iida—ready for action, with a massive golden statue of All Might in the background.

“Boku no Hero Academia” tells the story of Izuku Midoriya’s dream of becoming a hero. When All Might, the number one hero, chooses Izuku as his successor, his journey begins. Follow Izuku as he trains hard and faces challenges to become a true hero.

  • Yoshihiko Umakoshi (HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, Mushishi, Berserk) is the mastermind behind character design and animation direction.

What’s My Hero Academia All About?

With “Quirks,” aka newly discovered superpowers, popping up like crazy, 80% of humanity’s got skills ranging from element manipulation to shapeshifting. That leaves the rest feeling pretty darn ordinary, and Izuku Midoriya’s one of them. This high schooler’s got big dreams of heroism, with zero powers to back it up. But fate’s got a twist; he meets All Might, the top hero and his idol, who’s got a transferable Quirk and picks Izuku as his heir.

After grueling months of training, Izuku joins UA Academy, a top-tier hero prep school. This year’s freshmen are looking fierce. With his quirky classmates and a villainous organization looming, Izuku’s about to learn what being a hero really means.

So, that’s the 411 on the latest My Hero Academia movie. It’s gonna be a wild ride, so grab your hero capes and get ready to join the adventure. And hey, if you’re digging this, share the hype with your squad!
