The fight between Luffy and Kaido on the Skull Dome definitely blew fans away ONE PIECE. After suffering a seemingly fatal blow, Luffy has awakened his Devil Fruit’s powers and begins to unleash all his new abilities thanks to his newly acquired Gear Five form.
We saw Luffy’s new legendary form in ONE PIECE 1044, the gear five which is drastically different from anything seen in its previous forms. It came with a complete transformation along with the reveal of the “ridiculous” new abilities that would be at his disposal.
With this chapter anticipating Luffy’s new approach to combat, Chapter 1045 of ONE PIECE took it a step further and really started using what he could do with the powers of the newly awakened Devil Fruit.
The final chapter begins with Kaido being stunned by Luffy’s return and his newfound power. He manages to understand that Luffy’s ability to turn things into rubber is probably part of his awakening, but he can’t understand why Luffy himself changed that way (unaware that the true devil fruit Luffy’s is something far more powerful than just a Paramisha). Through Kaido’s reactions, we get a real taste of what Luffy is actually doing in battle, as it’s pretty hard to tell just by watching Luffy’s fight.
It’s gotten to the point where Luffy’s use of Haki of Armor and Haki of the Conqueror King, along with his new abilities, is sending Kaido into a tailspin, and it’s clear that Luffy is only scratching the surface with this new divine level of power that achieved in ONE PIECE 1044.
