The manga series of Shinichi Fukuda It’s been a moderate hit with fans since its launch a few years ago, but it wasn’t until My Dress-Up Darling made its official anime adaptation debut earlier this year that the series achieved the massive popularity it rightfully enjoys now.
The success of the anime adaptation not only affected the sales of the manga My Dress-Up Darling, but also the creator himself.
Speaking to Comic Natalie about the anime debut, series creator Shinichi Fukuda revealed that when he received the anime’s first few episodes, he spent 13 hours watching it “over and over,” to the point that at which he was overcome with excitement staring at the My Dress-Up Darling anime and was touched: “I received the first and second episodes of the full anime package and watched them. It was all so beautiful that I cried from the emotion… I watched it over and over again for a total of 13 hours, I’ve never been so happy and cheerful in my mangaka life.
The author has already pre-ordered the publication Blu Ray of My Dress-Up Darling once they became available, Fukuda also revealed that she loved everything about the series adaptation, including the opening, ending, main story and everything in between.
Curiously, Fukuda didn’t even have a particularly notable reaction to the adaptation’s initial announcement, given that they were buried from work at the time: “I thought this was something that would never happen to me in my lifeso I didn’t feel it at all… I thought I’d cry and be happier if they decided to make an animated film, but I really wasn’t expecting it, and when they suddenly told me, I did it couldn’t have done anything about it.”
