On the official page of the director’s upcoming animated film Masaaki Yuasa, INU-OH, a new promotional image of the project was released. This animation project is based on the novel by Hideo Furukawa, Heike Monogatari: INU-OH no Maki (Heike’s stories: Inu-Oh).

The film celebrated its 78th issue on September 10th Venice International Film Festival , and it was the first 2D animation film to be awarded in the “Horizons categoryβFrom this festival. On the other hand, the film will hit cinemas in Japan in the summer 2022 season (July-September), as the premiere planned for this year has been postponed.
Production team
- Masaaki Yuasa (DEVILMAN Crybaby, Ride Your Wave, Japan is sinking: 2020) is responsible for directing the feature film in the studios Science SARU.
- Taiyo Matsumoto is responsible for the character design like the second collaboration with Yuasa, who also directed the animated adaptation of his manga, Table tennis.
- Akiko Nogi He is responsible for writing and overseeing the scripts and is the first animation production he participates in after writing live-action projects.
- Yoshihide Otomo (Amachan, Live-Action Orange, Boku wa ImΕto ni Koi or Suru) is responsible for composing the soundtrack.
INU-OH synopsis
INU-OH is born with unique physical characteristics, and terrified adults cover every inch of their body with clothing, including a face mask. One day she meets a boy named Tomona, a blind Biwa player, and while Tomona is playing a tender song about convoluted fates, INU-OH discovers an incredible ability to dance.
INU-OH and Tomona become inseparable partners and friends who use their creative talents to survive on the fringes of society, while song after song makes them famous and promoted them to fame. Through the songs, the former hypnotizes his audience on stage and gradually begins to transform into an incomparably beautiful person. But why is Tomona blind? Why was INU-OH born with unique properties? It is a story about the friendship of the two who dance and sing to reach the truth and break each other’s curse.
