lumen is a manga by the famous mangaka Rumiko Takahashi. First published in 1978, the manga was a huge hit in Japan and abroad, becoming one of Takahashi's most popular works in the romcom genre. The first anime was a success and after many years Lum is back with different stories.

After a first Cour released in 2022, 2023 opened with more episodes of Lum, which will continue until the production's total of 52 episodes is reached. Except that a current episode caused discussions on the net Animators who appropriated a background created by another illustrator.

The Lum anime remake official site has released a statement on the release of Episode 17. In one of the scenes that aired, there actually is one background used without permission with a design already used. The staff apologized for the error and added that this particular wallpaper will be re-edited for all streaming services, future broadcasts and home video releases that release this episode in the future.

It all started a few days ago when Illustrator Chikuwa drew everyone's attention to this, after drawing this background during Comiket 97 in December 2019. Then, with a recent tweet, the illustrator accepted the apology from Lum's staff and said that no one had contacted him. Among other things, right in the scene that you'll find in the two screens below, there's a promotional poster on the left demonstrating that the backgrounds belong to Chikuwa.

No small mistake for the anime of Lumwho therefore had to take cover immediately.
