Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the flagship manga of Weekly Shonen Jump, Shuiesha's main magazine, which also publishes titles like ONE PIECE and My Hero Academia. The author Gege Akutami is thus one of the protagonists of the new generation of the popular Japanese magazine.

Although the similarities between Jujutsu Kaisen and Evanglion seem distant, the Sensei was really inspired by the saga of Hideaki Anno to sketch some elements of his jewel. In an exclusive 2020 interview for a French newspaper, Against Akutami he related the matter thus: "One of the titles that influenced me was Neon Genesis Evangelion, especially because of the biblical myths that characterize it. More generally, mythology is mostly about stories of people clashing with deities for no real reason. Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer manga is happily inspired by Shinto stories and ancient Japanese fairy tales in constructing its universe."

This is an interesting answer that clarifies some aspects of his manga's folklore. For the uninitiated, the author has also hidden an Evangelion Easter egg in a chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen. And you, on the other hand, knew that sensei valued Anno's masterpiece so much? As usual, let us know with a comment in the reserved field at the bottom of the page.
