The success of Jujutsu Kaisen was huge worldwide, as the film 0 confirms. Studio MAPPA is now dedicated to the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is now progressing independently. But according to the study, the anime of the exorcists has benefited greatly from Demon Slayerbut why?

Manabu Otsuka, CEO of MAPPA, explains it along with screenwriter Hiroshi Seko, who attended the Jujutsu Kaisen panel at Anime Expo. The two confirm that Demon Slayer’s success helped push jujutsu Kaisen forward with the approach of the first episodes.

“When asked if they predicted Jujutsu Kaisen’s popularity, Manabu said they had expectations because we knew Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was a hit. He thought there were similarities, but Manabu was very thankful that he had potential. They weren’t aiming to make it a hit, but it’s organically turned into one. Seko agrees, saying that Demon Slayer’s success has been fantastic and they thought something similar could be done for the anime market at home and abroad. The screenwriter also noted that Jujutsu Kaisen would be loved abroad, but not so much. Everyone was excited and very happy. And of course Hiroaki thought the same. They wanted a hit because jujutsu kaisen was a hit abroad, but this level surprised them all.”

In short, both did not expect such success abroad, even if Jujutsu Kaisen had potential. And now we just have to wait for the second season of MAPPA anime.
