The platform Funimation shared a new exclusive promotional image for the anime adaptation of the novel from Hideo Furukawa, Heike Monogatari (The Heike story), which is currently being pre-broadcast in their catalog. The platform also confirmed that the series will have a total of eleven episodes, information expected on the official Japanese site in the future.

The series is scheduled to premiere in Japan in January 2022. The platform Funimation premiered the series exclusively outside of Japan on early September 15. Naoko Yamada, Reiko Yoshida and Kensuke Ushio have worked on anime before Koe no Katachi (A silent voice) and Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and the blue bird) At Kyoto animation, and Yamada and Yoshida in particular have long been working on their work Kyoto animation, work on other animes like K-ON!, Tamako market and Tamako love story.

Furukawa’s novel adapts the classic Japanese epic “The Tale of the Heike” into modern language, and the anime will be the first television adaptation of the novel. The original epic tells the story of the rise and fall of the Taira clan during the Genpei Wars. The anime focuses on the perspective of Biwa, a blind walking minstrel. Biwa meets Taira no Shigemori, the heir of his clan and the bearer of a supernatural sight that can perceive spirits. Then he makes a prophecy about the fall of his clan.
