One of the most iconic forces in the Shonen landscape is the legendary Super Saiyan, the power-up introduced by Akira Toriyama in his work Dragon ball. However, many do not know that the Sensei considered other variants of the transformation, which were then modified in the course of the work.
As we know, following the voice of Sensei itself, the blonde hair was a gimmick to save time and to help Akira Toriyama and her team with the serialization of the manga. Originally, the hair didn’t have to deviate from the Saiyan’s iconic black color, but that choice changed as the work progressed. But it wasn’t the only change that was made later, as the author anticipated to the a Super Saiyan’s eyes the purple color instead of the currently known greenish (or bluish). This was evident in one of the official illustrations released to mark the release of the fifth film.
But it’s not the only curiosity as Toriyama had pondered the idea of allowing Gohan to even manifest his potential only with the help of the coloring of the pupils without necessarily having to dye your hair blonde. This came about because of the half-blood character – terrestrial and saiyan – of Goku’s son, a decision that, after careful consideration, was discarded.
