For several months now, Ufotable has been enjoying the success of Demon Slayer Movie: Infinity Train, which is truly record breaking both in Japan and around the world. But the company mustn’t forget that its founder has grave allegations that were investigated by Japanese police last year.
After a year of investigation by the Tokyo Special Investigation Department Hikaru Kondo was formally charged, Founder of Ufotable, the tax evasion that violates the Corporate Income Tax Act and the Consumer Tax Act. According to the indictment, the creator of Demon Slayer studio did not pay about 137 million yen in taxes, corresponds to approx. EUR 1.05 million. The investigation, which has been ongoing for several years, is now in its final phase, the rest will be left to the process.
In a statement released a few hours ago, Ufotable accepted the allegation and assured that the company would already set in motion to properly pay the taxes due. This confirms Ufotable’s initiative from last year to compensate for the amount due.
In the meantime, the studio is quietly preparing for the next work to be broadcast on television and brought to the cinema, with a particular focus on the Demon Slayer season 2, due out in late 2021.
