During the continuation of Dragon Ball Z, but actually partly even with the direct sequel, we have seen several mistakes by Goku, who on balance has not matured as one would expect after dozens of fights and countless times in which his loved ones risked their lives.
But above all, his biggest mistake and a very important step in understanding the entire character of Goku remains when decides to oppose Cell. to rush into battle his own son, Gohan. Definitely a worse decision than the one seen recently in the Molo saga, but at the same time important to better understand the characterization of the protagonist.
Goku’s pride was so great that it clouded his judgment and at the same time put his son’s life at risk. Although he was ultimately right about Gohan’s abilities, our hero failed to take into account that something might keep his eldest son from being successful, while at the same time expecting him to act the way he would. Second, and perhaps even the most serious mistake, was to project all of his expectations, experiences, and his own character, very different from his son’s, onto Gohan’s shoulders. That way, Goku didn’t realize he was imposing his will on someone who wasn’t really a like-minded warrior.
And you, on the other hand, what do you think of the main flaw of the protagonist, do you agree? Let us know with a comment below.
