The last chapter of Dragonball Super finally put the spotlight on a really popular character in Akira Toriyama’s masterpiece, a mysterious person whose characterization was recently rewritten in DBS: Broly, a narrative choice likely made in honor of that moment.
Goku knows nothing about Bardock and his real family as he always considered Grandpa Gohan his only relative. For this very reason, in fact, it sounds almost paradoxical that Vegeta seems to know more details about the protagonist’s father, as can be seen in Chapter 77. Goku and Bardak look really alike even if more on the surface.
Beyond the outward appearance, where both are the copy of the other, there is another element that makes the two so similar: friendliness. However, it is not a matter of purposeful feelings, of something idealistic, but out of pure instinct. Bardak defends the Cereleans, almost without realizing it, and at the same time Goku fights against powerful enemies not for justice, but for his own desire to fight deadly opponents. There is no real need for compassion to move father and son, just a very strong instinct, it is not for nothing that the divine technique learned by Goku is called his.Ultra instinct“.
