The Crunchyroll platform announced the winners of the fifth edition of its annual Anime Awards. The voting took place last January and was open to fans with a few votes per day in each category. During the nominations, several series tried to dominate in every possible category, including Beastars, Great pretender, Jujutsu Kaisen Y. Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! ((Get your hands off Eizouken!) with at least nine nominations each.

Specific, Great pretender got twelve nominations, Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! turned eleven, Jujutsu Kaisen ten and Beastars have nine. Ultimately, a total of 35 different anime series were nominated from the various 18 available categories.

  • Shouyou Hinata – Haikyuu !! to the top.

Best antagonist

  • Ryoumen Sukuna – Jujutsu Kaisen.

Best fight scene

  • Deku vs. overhaul – Boku not a hero academy ((My hero academy).

Best soundtrack

  • Kevin Penkin – – God’s tower ((Kami no Tou).

Best direction

  • Masaaki Yuasa – – Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! ((Get your hands off Eizouken!).

Best character design

  • Mayuka itou, Original designs by Iro Aida – – Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun ((Toilet-bound Hanako-Kun).

Best couple

  • Nasa Yuzaki & Tsukasa Yuzaki – Tonikaku kawaii ((TONIKAWA: Over the moon for you).

Best language performance in Japan

  • Yusuke Kobayashi as Natsuki Subaru – Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu ((Re: ZERO – start life in another world).

Best opening sequence

  • “Wild Side” by ALI – – Beastars.

Best ending sequence

  • “LOST IN PARADISE” by ALI ft. AKLO – – Jujutsu Kaisen.

Best fantasy series

  • Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd season ((Re: ZERO – Starting Life in Another World – Season 2).

Best drama series

  • Fruit basket 2nd season.

Best comedy series

  • Kaguya-sama: love is war.

The nominees were selected by the Crunchyroll jury before voting opened on January 15th. Finally, we left out the “Nominees for Best English Language Achievement” category as it is not directed at our region.
