“Code Geass” franchise announced an ambitious slate of new projects during a special commemorative event in Tokyo. The announcement, which sets the stage for the series’ upcoming 20th anniversary in 2026, promises to expand the rich tapestry of one of anime’s most celebrated universes.

The announcement came during an intimate yet momentous “Special Birthday Screening” event, which featured both the classic “Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch” and the recent addition to the franchise, “Code Geass: Dakkan no Rose.” The screening transformed into a celebration of the series’ enduring legacy, bringing together the voices that gave life to its iconic characters.

Breaking New Ground

The franchise is set to mark its milestone anniversary with several key initiatives:

  • Multiple new projects in active development
  • A comprehensive film festival featuring all 13 franchise films
  • Special year-end programming on the official YouTube channel (December 29, 2024 – January 3, 2025)
  • Enhanced mobile and PC gaming experience with “Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch – Lost Stories”

Behind the Voices

The event featured moving testimonials from the series’ cornerstone talents. Jun Fukuyama, the voice behind the charismatic Lelouch, shared a remarkable insight into his dedication to the role. During the second season’s recording, his commitment to achieving the perfect vocal pitch led to a physical transformation – his neck actually expanded by 4 centimeters due to the intense vocal demands.

“It was a moment in which I understood that, in addition to the heart, the physique is also crucial in acting,” Fukuyama reflected, offering a glimpse into the physical demands of voice acting.

A New Generation Rises

Kohei Amasaki, who brings the character of Rozé to life, spoke about personal growth through her role. The event revealed an ingenious piece of series trivia: “Rozé” serves as an anagram of “Zero,” Lelouch’s legendary alter ego. This connection runs deeper, as the project initially carried the working title “Dakkan no Zett,” paying homage to Zero’s iconic “Z.”

Looking Ahead

The event concluded with a touching gesture as Amasaki presented Fukuyama with a floral tribute on behalf of Lelouch, drawing a standing ovation from the attendees. Amasaki’s expressed hope for continuing Rozé and Sakuya’s narrative thread hints at future possibilities within the expanding universe.

Fukuyama’s closing remarks resonated with both nostalgia and anticipation: “We hope new projects continue to stimulate your minds and hearts. The Code Geass journey is far from over!”
