Chapter 22: Promise
Lynn, Pele and Hina are about to be killed by Doan due to the “Original Ballot”. Doan has no intention of allowing Alcia to be destroyed, so he will not hesitate to arrest any suspect. The boys cling to one last hope: Licht. Pele and Hina manage to distract Doan and allow Lynn to escape to awaken Licht, who they believe is still alive. This is how chapter 22 of Plunderer.
Lynn escapes on horseback and reaches the place where Licht’s body was left. The girl is injured and has already lost a lot of blood, so her time is counted. Meanwhile, Doan postpones the murder of Nana, Pele, and Hina until dawn, incredulous that Licht is still alive. Lynn tries to resuscitate Licht’s corpse without much success, while her body shows no further support for Doan’s injuries.
Miraculously, the people of Homhough come to the rescue of Lynn. With the first aid applied, the Second Lieutenant has managed to postpone her own death, and takes the opportunity to declare her love for Licht. With the sun heralding sunrise, Licht rises up ready to rescue his friends, and continue his fight against Doan. However, no one would have anticipated that the “Heavy Slam Ace” will have an unexpected ally.
Opinion
Chapter 22 of Plunderer shows us the return of one of our heroes. Licht is back to life and will have to face his former comrade-in-arms to save his friends from his clutches. Doan wants to protect Alcia’s existence, but as Hina deduced, the “Ace” has many doubts in her heart. Licht has broken his promise, and now he will have to make him pay.
On the other hand, we see that the feelings of the protagonists are on the surface. Lynn has finally been able to declare her love for Licht, even knowing that it is unrequited. For his part, Licht has accepted Hina’s love and finally declared that he feels the same way about her. The “Ace” will no longer abandon people who love him, and will take them with him wherever he goes.
The awakening
As I had commented in my previous review, Licht’s death seemed really troublesome to me. I had no idea how the “Ace” would come back to life, I already had to do it one way or another. However, he had forgotten a small detail of Licht’s past, and that was that he was asleep for years. And not only asleep, his heart was completely stopped, in a state of suspended animation.
This detail from Nana’s story was the perfect pretext to justify Licht’s resurrection. Not much is explained, but it seems that this peculiarity of Licht’s body is a defense mechanism that allows him to survive and recover from mortal damage. It should be noted that Doan had to be informed of this ability of his partner, so his actions give him away: he does not want to kill Licht.
Peculiar
Chapter 22 of Plunderer it is not characterized by being loaded with events. That is, the little that happens in the episode is extended and explained very well; the bet of Doan and Hina, the resurrection of Licht (where I include the sentimental moment of Lynn) and the restart of the fight of “Ases”. However, we can say that there are details that if analyzed we could change our minds about some characters.
The first thing I noticed was the convenient appearance of the inhabitants of Homhough, the town where Lynn was assigned. Apparently they were all led by the woman from the greengrocer; the first peculiar of the episode. It was this woman who realized that Lynn was in trouble, and more than that, she knew Licht’s identity as a “Legendary Ace.” These details, added to her great physical ability that she showed us in her first appearance, makes me think that she is more involved than she seems.
On the other hand we have Pele. When Licht gives the sergeant precise instructions for treating Lynn’s wounds, he doesn’t seem to fully understand them. However, Licht is sure he can. Pele puts on an expression that suggests Licht hit the spot, and discovered a Sergeant’s secret. I’m not sure this secret will be covered (well yes, a little), but they will leave that discussion for later.
Finally, the last peculiar one is Sonohara. She reappears under the influence of drugs that make her an efficient and willing murderer to fight Licht. This situation leaves many questions, was she captured again? When? I find it hard to believe that the “Pursuit Ace” was captured so easily, so I hope Sonohara is pretending and eventually joins Licht to stop Doan.
Conclusions
Chapter 22 of Plunderer The final arc of this animated adaptation unfolds slowly for us. Plunderer It has had very dense episodes in terms of events and plot development, but these latest installments have been quite light. In this arc they are taking their time to put the pieces in place. These chapters are often called transitional, since their function is to create the necessary conditions so that the story can take its course. This without being very flashy deliveries.
The story progresses, and there are only 2 more episodes to be released. With chapter 22 of Plunderer Being transitional, it can only mean that the next two will be explosive, or at least the last one. We will see how the fight between “Legendary Aces” unfolds where Alcia’s fate is at stake.
