Majo no Tabitabi – Chapter 5: Royal Celesteria
The next country Elaina came to on her journey was Celestaria Real, a country with a large number of wizards. As Elaina walks the streets and watches the various businesses some magic users have done, she ends up in front of the ‘Royal Academy of Magic’ which caught her attention, preparing to enter despite the closed doors. After a few steps, Elaina was stopped by the guard, who warned her that she could not enter without permission, even though she was a witch.
Elaina continued to tour the city, this time from the air. Some met even more magical users, some distributed the newspaper while others carried different items in pairs. At this point his path was interrupted by two young magic users who asked him to go with them without asking any questions. Elaina refused and tried to leave, but was surrounded by more magical users. Start a chase. After a long time, none of the magical users was able to find the ‘Ash witch‘. Until her teacher appeared, Elaina’s same teacher, Fran.
Fran is currently a teacher at the Royal Academy of Magic, so he found out about her when he was informed of her attempt to break in without permission. And since it was such a big place, he used his students to find it. Both had a lot to talk about. The next day, at the request of her former teacher, Elaina answers some of the students’ questions and gives them some tips to improve their magic. When Fran arrives at the end of the day, she asks Elaina, if she likes, to prepare a parting present for her.Ash witchI would go the next day.
Goodbye and farewell
not how previous episodes, the story in Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5 is much quieter. While it also left a “bad taste in my mouth” it wasn’t for the same reason as the others. Because of the sad feelings her story touches. With the reunion with his old teacher and his farewell to her and the young students, he met in the short time he was in the country.
Although I could feel and see an Elaina trying to keep a certain distance from her Fran-Sensei, it wasn’t so sad when it was time to say goodbye. I think it wasn’t properly addressed. And don’t talk about the characters or the story, but about customization.
Personally, I still caught up with the easy novel. Although I’ve already read all of the stories that have been turned into animation so far. Including the story accordingly Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5, which by the way is the last chapter of the first volume of the light novel. Something I suspected from the feeling of separation during the episode.
Back to the topic, details were lost in the adaptation that I think are important to better show Ellaa’s growth as a character. For example, where did Elaina spend the night? After all, she was followed by the students before she found a place to rest that night. And in the adaptation they don’t mention it, though it does seem like he would stay with Fran-sensei. Something that doesn’t appear in the novel. After Elaina’s own decision not to make connections that would make it difficult for her to leave this country to continue her journey.
The feelings Elaina might have weren’t fully reflected Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5. Both the sadness of being separated from his teacher again and the happiness and excitement of meeting her in surprising ways. They weren’t bad, but I think they could have been shown and expressed better.
The adventures of …
This time, Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5 started with a short scene showing Elaina six months after her stay at Celesteria Real. Start his story by remembering what happened there after viewing a book called “The Adventures of Fran”. Something that I didn’t attach much importance to in the beginning, but which I did notice as the episode progressed, was a clue to learning more about Fran-sensei.
First of all, the conversation with Fran-sensei begins and Elaina took a strange turn when the teacher mentioned that she had also kept a diary of her adventures. But that got lost at some point when he forgot it in a bag he was selling. However, the same conversation between the two gave enough clues to things that he only had theories about. Including the reason Fran-sensei had left Robetta’s quiet country at the beginning Majo no tabitabi. Well, he mentioned that he had problems there, but didn’t state which ones. Plus, of course, her interaction with Elaina’s mother to become Elaina’s teacher.
Explain how my theory about this situation changed with the information in Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5 would be long and boring. But in short: Fran-sensei is the young trainee “Foula” from her and Elaina’s favorite story, and Nikeh is Elaina’s mother.
This explains the reason Fran-sensei went to Robetta to meet her former teacher. Why she so easily accepted becoming Elaina’s teacher when all the other witches in the country rejected her (either out of envy or because she was too talented). Also why she mentioned the possibility that her mother (in relation to Elainas) was the one who inspired her to become travelers.
Incidentally, in the novel they never mention the existence of Fran-Sensei’s adventure book. Was it made specifically for the animated adaptation or is it from a chapter in the second volume of the novel? Of course, I accept that I was delighted that the result of this “lost” book was a success in another country.
Details on Majo no Tabitabi – Chapter 5
As you may have noticed, I started comparing the original source with the animated adaptation. Something I will continue to do, for better or for worse, because of the small moments that are lost and that might be relevant in some ways in the chapters. I will only be making these comparisons to the story told in each episode, however, so I will not touch on the ones that were skipped without an adjustment. Only with the animated adaptation of Majo no tabitabi.
Speaking of technical details of Majo no tabitabi – Chapter 5 I have to admit that I once again felt a certain “laziness” in the quality of the animation. It’s not that it’s bad, but the little detail it shows sometimes makes me feel like it’s not reaching its maximum potential. Although the stories have left me speechless so far, mainly the surprises that touch somewhat “dark” subjects. The animation I’m looking at couldn’t keep up.
Again, the animation quality isn’t bad, but it’s not the great quality I was initially expecting Majo no tabitabi. Now don’t just wait for a nice animation when showing meadows, forests or even magic yourself. I would love to see more detailed features that add an enveloping feel to each of the stories. No matter if they are sad or happy. The lighting is good, as are the tones, which are used in the vast majority of cases.
I want to feel like a different character in the story and not just a bystander. And I think you can do that with the right settings, in terms of both animation and sound effects and music. The latter, by the way, I sometimes feel a little absent.
