Chapter 10: Katarina's Dinner

Art is invited for dinner. At Yuri's house, he sees how Katarina is happy, and she shares her hobby with everyone. Katarina tells him about Gimo and Bouna and their bread soup. Then Arte would have a conversation with Yuri, who tells her everything her niece lived in the country. Katarina must return home, but she does not look happy, because she does not consider her home home and her family she does not see as family. Arte decides that they should search for Gimo, after confronting Malta. They head to the Murano Island, where Katarina sees Gimo and goes with him, Arte loses her but manages to find her, listening to the last conversation that Gimo and Katarina would have. Days later Arte is about to be fired, but the girl prevents it, showing manners. Sofia also challenges him, with which Malta would leave and mother and daughter would give each other their first hug in life.

Chapter opinion

It was a good chapter, only things happened very quickly. We just met Katalina at the end of chapter 8, we met her a little more in the previous one and in this one we are already presented with a kind of solution to her conflict. The problem with this speed is that it is more difficult to connect with that character, to empathize. The same for Gimo and Bouna, we cannot really empathize or understand them because we only saw a few minutes of them. The stories have been so small and the resolution of conflicts so fast. Added to this are the subtopics, which are very good and interesting, but are looser. Thoughts of characters such as: why does the nobility want to stand out? Why does that difference exist? We are not the same? This on the side of Katalina (and something that a child really thinks can think). We understand why the girl came to think like this, but it was like they threw us the answer and we could not enjoy the process. Time is a cruel tyrant.

Who do not work, do not eat

Like Myne, for Katalina, those who do not work or do not support food preparation should not eat, so Yuri also works alongside the servants. Yuri does it more for the happiness of her niece, but in Katalina the feeling is purer, she does not focus on the fictitious differences, that is to say the social ones, but on the natural equality, that is to say the human one. The fact that Katalina has grown up in the field has helped a lot to think like this. It is at this time that Katalina also tells Arte her story of the taste for cooking. Thanks to that, Art manages to understand it more and within all the equalities, it also sees differences, especially when talking to Yuri.

The past of a little noblewoman

Yuri has a conversation in front of the fire with Arte, she tells her niece's past in a very concise and quick way. Katalina went to live in the country together with some servants, the lady was called Buona and she had a lot of milk, so the noble newborn went to live with her. Buona had a son, Gimo, two years older and who with the passing of time became a very good friend of Katalina. But everything would change when the disease attacked, Buono would die suddenly and having no one to stay with, Malta only found out that her daughter was still going and ordered to bring her. Katalina could not say goodbye to Buona. When she arrived at the house where she was not raised, she felt strange and that was where Yuri saw her again alone and crying, that would be the moment in which the bond between uncle and niece would become much stronger.

The disadvantages of being invisible

In the new home and until these moments in history, Katalina was an invisible girl to everyone, no one paid attention to her, they simply left her to the maids and the guardians, although even for these Katalina she was just someone without importance. What a child of Katalina's age wants is attention, affection and guidance. This is why Katalina behaved like this, because it is the only way to get parents' attention, it was the only way to appear before someone, only in this way did they take importance. If she had behaved well, her father would not have paid more attention to her and her mother would think that everything is fine. The fact that a child is invisible in the eyes of the parents is devastating for the child. That attention, appreciation and guidance that she did not find in her family she found with her uncle Yuri, but especially with Bouna and Gimo.

Who are family?

There is a famous phrase that I think we have all heard: father is the one who breeds, not the one who begets. With that simple phrase we can really understand Katalina's feelings. She considered Bouna and Gimo her family, because she grew up with them, because they saw and cared for her, gave her affection and treated her as one of their home. We can also use another phrase: home is where one feels good. Katalina felt too good with those "servants", there is her home, that's why she says "that place" to the house where she lives now, because she cannot find happiness in a place that is still unknown within everything. Arte manages to understand all this, so she decides to look for Gimo and make him and Katalina meet so they can talk and fix things, because the little girl thought that they never considered her family.

Trip to the island

Arte embarks with Katalina to the Murano Island, where Gimo lives (Yuri gave Arte a role with the address). They were just about to start their search when Katalina sees Gimo, recognizes him despite being older and goes towards him. Art loses sight of her and searches for her, finding her moments later. Katalina looked happy, as if something had happened with Gimo, he also looks happy, but when Katalina already had to leave Gimo yells at him not to come back. The girl turns around and asks why. Gimo tells him that he must be with his family and that both must lead a different life, born in different conditions their lives are also different, so both must try their best to be better. Katalina internalizes those words of her beloved "brother" and understands what she must do from now on, the only way to be able to join her is to be independent, when this happens Gimo will be waiting for her.

Take strength, confrontation

Days pass, Malta is disappointed in Art, so he is going to fire her, but suddenly Katarina arrives and, showing great behavior, tells the father not to do it, that it was his fault. Malta does not tolerate the insolence of her daughter, but Sofia intervenes and defends her daughter, confronting her husband. Malta withdrew saying they do what they want. Sofia is nervous and trembling, imagine, this is the first time she has spoken like this to her husband. But this only leads to the most emotional scene in the anime: Sofia bows to her daughter, accepts her mistakes and ignorance, says she doesn't know what to do, but her daughter has the right words: a big hug. Sofia, with all the love that she has not been able to give, gives her the hug and the two remain physically and emotionally united. The mother was able to redeem herself and the daughter was able to find a new home.

The chapter was good because of the emotional ending, that was the meat of the plate. It was easier to empathize between mother and daughter because we know them more, because we know that Sofia did not want to be away from her daughter, she only followed those rules, which Katalina considers silly. The hurry of the development shows, we did not see several things that we would have found interesting: the conversation with Gimo (Arte searched for about 5 minutes and found her, but it seems that they talked a lot), the story of Gimo and his mother, the upbringing of Katalina and more. Let's hope this anime has a beautiful closure.
