Each mangaka approaches the realization of their work differently, and it is often difficult to be aware of the peculiarities that characterize their productions. Gege Akutami, author of Jujutsu Kaisenwent into the subject in an interview and revealed a lot about the various stages of production behind Yuji Itadori’s story.

In the interview, which you can see in the pictures at the bottom of the page, Akutami openly admits rely heavily on storyboardsand not always able to correct them to make them more like the editors’ wishes.

“There were times when arranging the designs on the advice of others felt like taking pieces off a Jenga play tower and risking everything collapsing.”he started explaining the mangaka and then pointed it out to him “Changing superficial details is fine, but in general I’d rather get back to work instead of arranging many things in the proposed storyboards”.

Going into more detail, Akutami said he doesn’t pay much attention to creating the designs and prefer to write storyboards, his favorite part of the whole production. To complete a chapter’s storyboard, Akutami needs about half a day’s work, but it might be subject to sudden changes due to revelations or twists he suddenly introduces.
