A leak of the additional page of the sixteenth volume of the manga, written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, Jujutsu KaisenHe explained the background of a reference to the horror manga by Junji itou, Uzumaki. The page is summarized as follows:
Β«“Maximum: Uzumaki”, which appeared from “Volume 0” of the piece, was inspired by Junji Itou’s manga series “Uzumaki”. Gege mentioned that he wanted to draw the Uzumaki twice, once for publication in Weekly Shonen Jump and once in the assembled volume, but pointed out that he couldn’t make “Maximum: Uzumaki” as creepy as the original. Gege also noted that he had a clear standard of distinguishing a parody from a tribute. He thanked many writers, including Junji Itou, for allowing him to use his intellectual property, although Gege Akutami and Weekly Shonen Jump sometimes delayed him, mainly due to the speed of publication and tight schedules.Β». On the other hand, Gege Akutami started publishing the manga in the magazine Weekly shonen jump from the publisher Shueisha in March 2018. The piece inspired an anime adaptation that premiered during the fall season 2021 (October-December) and ended with a total of 24 episodes produced by the studios. Jujutsu Kaisen Summary
The high school student Yuuji Itadori, who idly pursues paranormal activities with the Occult Club, spends his days in the club room or hospital visiting his bedridden grandfather. Yuuji triggers a chain of supernatural events and is suddenly thrust into the world of curses, terrible beings formed from human malice and negativity after swallowing the object that appears to be the finger of the demon Sukuna Ryoumen, the “king of” turns out to be curses β.
Yuuji experiences firsthand the threat these curses pose to society as he discovers his own newly acquired powers. Presented at the Tokyo Metropolitan Technical College of Magic, he begins to walk a path he cannot return from: the path of a jujutsu wizard.
