With the conclusion of Season 2 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has completed his adjustment of the bow “entertainment districtThe 11 episodes – including two extended episodes – managed to cover 30 chapters of the manga without removing almost anything from the source material.
This however does not mean that the second season of the popular anime was a 100% faithful adaptation from side to screen. For anime fans, here are the biggest differences between anime and manga.
Tengen Uzui’s weapon of choice is a set of dual Nichirin blades connected by a chain, which he wields similarly to Nunchaku. In the manga, a dialog box reveals this Tengen’s swords contain explosive power who had left no way out except for Gyutaro and Daki.
The anime doesn’t have a narrative voice, so this gem was probably ruled out due to the lack of a way to realistically communicate the information. However, this explosive power helps explain why Tengen and Gyutaro’s final showdown in Demon Slayer 2×17 was filled with constant explosions.
But the second season also chose to add content to enhance the story. In the manga and anime, the “Entertainment District” arc begins when Tanjiro returns from a mission at the Butterfly Mansion to find Tengen, who kidnapped Aoi and Naho.
However, this mission – one Fight alongside Nezuko against a Spider Demon – takes place entirely outside the pages of the manga, unlike the anime. The mission itself doesn’t add anything significant to the series, but who doesn’t love an extra tag team among the Kamado brothers?
Also, in the manga, Tengen and the boys go straight to Wisteria House once they reach Yoshiwara, home of the entertainment district. In the anime, there is a funny scene with Inosuke and Zenitsu at first the pillar of sound reduced to a disgruntled babysitter tries to keep children at bay who run off to explore the city (or escape in Inosuke’s case).
The latest of the new scenes in the Entertainment District arc is the flashback of Tengen and his wives visiting the Uzui family grave in Demon Slayer 2×16. This flashback is anime-exclusive and helps the audience understand the flashy Pillar a little better and makes it clear that he and his wives genuinely love each other.
The final showdown of the anime between Tengen and Gyutaro was the most spectacular fight for Demon Slayer yet. However, the last fight in the manga was much more low-key. In the manga, once Tengen has mastered his musical score technique, there is only a brief and relatively minor scuffle between Tengen and Gyutaro before Tanjiro steps in to decapitate the demon. The anime on the other hand turned this fight into a Dragon Ball Z fightfilled with explosions, high speed hits and destruction.
In the manga, the corpse of Gyutaro has unleashed a barrage of bloodscythes far inferior to the anime’s explosionwhich leveled most of the city – they would all have died if Nezuko hadn’t come out of her box and used her Demonic Blood Art to neutralize the poison.
Finally we leave you with the chapter of the manga from which you can start the continuation of Demon Slayer and we remind you that you can watch Demon Slayer 2 episodes on Crunchyroll.
