Chainsaw man is one of the most popular Shonen manga of the past two years, and by the time the anime’s first season was released, new statements by author Tatsuki Fujimoto have surfaced online. The mangaka discussed and revealed its past during the MAP Stage 2021 Title of the American film that inspired his work.
“I made up my mind to become a mangaka at a young age“said the author”,I remember when I was a boy when I woke up at night and heard my mom and dad talk about me. I remember one of the two said “Tatsuki becomes a NEET if we don’t take care of him“. As time went on, I started thinking about a job as a director, but making a film on my own was impossible, so I ended up choosing the writer. I never wanted a normal job“.
Fujimoto later stated that the film that inspired his work is the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or “Don’t open this door”, which is why the protagonist of his story picks up a chainsaw. The mangaka has never hidden its passion for western entertainment products or horror, for example, you will remember its amazing Captain America fan art.
Chainsaw Man is a tremendous hit today, with over 11 million copies circulating and a MAPPA-edited anime adaptation due out in 2021.
