Weekly Shonen Jump is always on the lookout for new hits that can lead the magazine to success. The offer is always ongoing and the Shueisha in-house magazine offers new series of old and new authors every quarter. Recently there was Ayashimon, Yuji Kaku’s series.
It only took a few chapters to convince readers: Ayashimon seems to be online a lot at the moment. Of course, we have to wait for more information from the magazine and the sale of the tank tokens, with sales figures and surveys to clarify their future role. However, there are solid foundations to start on: here because Ayashimon may already be a hit.
First of all, the author is certainly not new to this industry: Yuji Kaku has seen some failed serializations from which he has learned a lot, enough to propose Jigokuraku – Hell’s Paradise, which will also be an anime and which is his most successful solid for the time being. He also has experience with Tatsuki Fujimoto, one of the most atypical mangaka in recent years, which has taught him a lot. In addition, Weekly Shonen Jump has already taken care of the preparation of some advertising and Twitter pages. Of course, these latter elements aren’t a guarantee of success – just think about what happened to Kishimoto’s Samurai 8.
Then there is the intrinsic value of the series: Yuji Kaku sketched a world that combines action and comedy, a duo that have done really well in the Weekly Shonen Jump lately, but this he didn’t skimp on the gore and splatter side pretty forced with fighting too, but similar to One-Punch Man’s. In short, the mangaka seems to have effectively brought together many elements that seem to be consolidated with a certain balance. The coming months will show whether Ayashimon will make the leap in quality and become a future column for the magazine.
