The wait wasn't very long, but for fans of Vinland saga whoever wanted to see Thorfinn's life on was surely too much. The conclusion of the first season had brought the young Viking into a moment of crisis when Askeladd died not at his hands but at the hands of the new King Canute.
Thorfinn has lost his purpose in life and he found himself in an uncontrollable spiral of events that took him far, far away. How he got there and what he's going to do with his life from now on is the main theme of the episodes of Vinland Saga season 2. The anime has just moved on to the first episode, which introduces a Thorfinn to the audience in a completely new way: there isn't more the arrogant boy who is ready to throw himself into the fight for his goal, but an apparently calm, distant and empty person who goes through the day without any particular overview.
Everyone is happy with this return, and so is Makoto Yukimura, mangaka and author of Vinland Saga. Since he is very involved in social life on Twitter, he has shared his thoughts on this comeback with fans. “Thank you for watching Vinland Saga Season 2. This era of being able to watch anime across borders at the same time is awesome. I want to create a work that can be enjoyed across ethnic, generational or gender differences." This is the translation of the original English tweet, available below.
The mangaka's hope is therefore that everyone, without distinction, appreciates the story. And surely the ending of Vinland Saga that is coming now, as the author himself said months ago, will be able to evoke other strong emotions.
Thank you for watching Vinland Saga Season 2. Here you can watch the same anime across borders at the same time, it's wonderful. I want to do work that can be enjoyed across the differences in ethnicity, generation and gender.
