On the official page for the anime adaptation of the video game Touken ranbu, titled Katsugeki / Touken Ranbu, a new promotional image was published for the project. The press release does not announce any planned release dates yet, but confirms that Studios Ufotable they will be responsible for production again.
It’s worth noting that this feature film has been announced since the thirteenth and final episode of the original series aired in Japan in September 2017 and that there has been no updates on the subject since then. In fact, that reveal will take place on December 29, 2021, exactly five years after the first details of the anime adaptation were revealed.

- Toshiyuki-Shirai (Tales of Zestiria the Cross, Fate / Zero) was responsible for directing the anime in the studios Ufotable.
- Takashi-suhara (Fate / Zero, Fate / stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, God Eater) was responsible for writing and overseeing the scripts.

Katsugeki / Touken Ranbu synopsis
In 1863, Izuminokami Kanesada and his partner Horikawa Kunihiro came to the streets of Edo from the future to investigate their master’s reports of an imminent enemy invasion. As humanoid manifestations of the famous swords of Toshizou Hijikata, their role is to protect the history of the retrograde army that is trying to change it. Soon, with the help of other sword warriors, they fought uninterruptedly against the mysterious army throughout the Bakumatsu period. However, your journey will not be easy. Loaded with blood and betrayal in the chaotic era close to their hearts, the duo will be forced to make difficult decisions where everything is at stake.
