The director Naoko Yamada is well known in Japan for contributing to the success of Kyoto Animation Studio. In 2021 he produced the anime The Heike Story with Science Saru Studio, a drama series that reached the tenth of a total of twelve episodes. The story also conquers audiences thanks to its special animations.
The Heike story has been streamed on Funimation since September 15 last year. Naoko Yamada returned to directing The Heike Story three years after her last job, Liz and the Blue Bird. The anime tells the adventure of a blind girl named Biwa, who is orphaned during the war and decides to become a minstrel in Japan. But the young woman has a gift, namely that of see the future. One day Biwa predicts the end of the Taira clan, and after telling the family’s eldest son he is invited by him to join them.
Produced by the studio Science saru, The Heike Story will also debut on Japanese channel Fuji TV on January 12, 2022. For this event, the official Twitter account of the anime @heike_anime posted a promotional video with some of the best scenes out there.
Science Saru Studios animations are unique and unmistakable, especially thanks to the visionary founder Masaaki Yuasa. After resigning as President of Science Saru, the studio continued to work with an excellent director such as Naoko Yamada.
Though it isn’t still ready in streaming, The Heike Story is also making her TV debut. Will it repeat the success it had on the Funimation platform?
