Makoto Shinkai has quickly become one of the most visited directors in the history of Japanese animation, following the two global successes of Weathering With You and Your Name Suzume no Tojimari has posted impressive numbers in Japan, where it continues to fill the box office several weeks after its release.

Produced by CoMix Wave Films, the film remains at the top of the animated charts after three weekends, managing to outperform films of the caliber of ONE PIECE: RED, the franchise's highest-grossing feature film, Slime Life: Scarlet Bond and Sword Art Online: Progressive - Joke of a Deep Night. But what's also surprising is how much weight the film held outside of animation, as it managed to outperform blockbusters like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Strange World.

For now Suzume no Tojimari grossed over $45 million in Japanese cinemas, an exceptional debut that should grow in the first months of 2023 when the film will arrive in the rest of the world thanks to distribution by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. And what do you think of this success? Are you intrigued by Shinkai's latest film? We await your opinion in the comments.

Finally we recall that the film has also arrived in the Happy Meals with a dedicated illustrated book.
