Studio Ponoc announced the production of an animated film adaptation of the novel by. at AF Harold and Emily Gravett, The imaginary, the premiere of which is scheduled for the summer season 2022 (July-September) in cinemas in Japan. The adaptation bears the title Yaneura no Rudger (Rudger in the attic) and the statement contained the first promotional video.

Summary of Yaneura no Rudger
Rudger is Amanda Shuffleup’s imaginary boyfriend. Nobody else can see Rudger … until the evil Mr. Bunting arrives at Amanda’s door. Mr. Bunting chases the imaginary. According to rumors, he even eats them. And now he’s found Rudger. Soon Rudger is alone and running for his imaginary life. He must find Amanda before Mr. Bunting catches him and before Amanda forgets him and he disappears into nowhere. But how can an unreal child be alone in the real world?
