The financial results of Atelier Kai for fiscal 2021 showed a final loss of 104 million yen (about $826.86 thousand). The results of the previous year (Fiscal year 2020) showed a final loss of 165 million yen, so the reduction is about 37.0 percent from the previous number.
The company was declared bankrupt, according to annual accounts published in Japan’s Official Gazette on April 13. That insolvency refers to the inability of a person or company to pay their debts. A company becomes insolvent when it cannot meet its obligations, but since it still has revenue it cannot yet be considered bankrupt.
Atelier Kai is a subsidiary of ADK emotions and is dedicated to the planning, development and production of animation. Productions from 2021 included Uma Musume: Nice derby 2nd season (that Studio KAI was not part of the production committee despite its excellent profits and sales of Blu-ray packages), the ONA Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama: Hyoutei vs. Rikkai – Future Game (The New Prince of Tennis: Hyoutei vs. Rikkai – Game of the Future), the series of promotional shorts 23-ji no saga meshi anime and the anime adaptation of Super Cub.
This year they have projects like Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai and Odekakechuu (Skeleton Knights in another world), Shine post, Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama: U-17 World Championship (The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Championship) J fuuto tantei (Future PI).
