During the Anime Expo Lite 2021, Disney finally revealed the release date of Star Wars: Visions, a bridge between the Lucasfilm galaxy and the world of Japanese animation. But what else do we know about this much-anticipated work?
Lucasfilm and Disney described Star Wars: Visions as “an original series of animated short films “. Therefore, unlike linear series like The Clone Wars, Visions will explore new stories and new characters in each of the short films that make up the series. this is that first anthological series of Star Wars.
According to the authors themselves, Visions “celebrates the Star Wars galaxy“and it will do so through a cultural lens that draws resources from Japanese, with each creator helping to bring their own into the franchise.
Each episode of the anthology is directed by a different animation studio, so we will find out at each appointment another stylistic approach. For this anthology, Lucasfilm and Disney have brought together “the best creators of Japanese anime” such as Studio Trigger, Science Saru and Colorido.
One novel, Star Wars: Ronin – A Visions Novel, is based on one of the anthology’s episodes. Star Wars has one great literary tradition and this new opera, based on the episode The Duel, will debut on October 12th.
The anthology consists of at least 10 episodesas Kathleen Kennedy announced during Diseny Investor Day 2020. This should be the minimum and it cannot be ruled out that some of the short films may consist of one or more episodes.
Star Wars: Visions will debut on Disney +, Disney’s streaming platform September 22. Recently, animator Chung spoke about the unhealthy working conditions in the industry, and Science SARU has responded to that criticism.
