Spy x Family is among the most popular of the time and both the manga and the animated adaptation are dominating the charts. But if the Spy comedy directed by Tatsuya Endo Had it been released in the 1990s, would it have been just as successful? There’s no definitive answer to this question, but one artist tried to immerse the work in the great ’90s.
A fanart posted by Twitter user @hanavbra, known for this type of work, imagined what the Spy x Family anime would have looked like if it had been aired in the last decade of the 20th century. The artist has recreated four iconic scenes from the first aired episodes in this style from the past. Before analyzing the outcome, let us leave you to the recent Spy x Family controversy.
In the first we see the presentation of the three members of the Forger family, Loid, Anya and Yor, each a spy, a telepath and an assassin. In the second and third artworks, we see Yor as the Princess of Thorns and the Forgers’ first family outing. In the latest fanart, Anya’s eyes sparkle just imagining a spy and a killer like mom and dad.
That 90s art style it is distinctive and drastically modifies that of Endo, especially for the faces. Indeed, the characters have it sharper and thicker contours, and reflections are also distinguished by different uses of shadows and highlights. Spy x Family is particularly close in these pictures Spread by Naoko Takeuchi from Sailor Moon.
