Spider-Punk is about to make a comeback in comics. After being among the protagonists of the comic events Ragnoverso and Spidergeddon and appearing as a Spider Man PS4 costume, Spider-Punk will star in a five-issue miniseries written by Cody Ziglar and illustrated by Justin Mason.
Created by Dan Slott in 2015, Spider-Punk is an alternate version of Spider-Man Anarchist and, as the name suggests, punk. Unlike many alternate Spider-Man, Spider-Punk doesn’t hide under the mask of Peter Parker, but of Hobie Brown, who plays the role of Prowler in the classic universe. So does Miles Morales Spider-Punk is a black Spider-Man.
In an interview with Den of Geek, Ziglar said he told Marvel: “I’d love to write Spider-Man, but if it’s a black Spider-Man then you must want me on board.“. Ziglar went on to reveal Marvel’s response:”‘Relax, if we do, we’ll let you know.’ Then one day they contacted me. “Hey, he’s not just a black Spider-Man, he’s a black Spider-Man who likes punk stuff.” Optimal! It literally covers all my areas! They saw how excited I was about the project and gave it to me“.
The new series of In Spider-Punk, Hobie will deal with the aftermath of President Norman Osborn’s fall. Among the characters set to appear in the miniseries is a variant of Riri Williams, the alter ego of heroine Ironheart, who will soon be the protagonist of a Disney+ series. Among other things, Ironheart could already debut in Black Panther 2.
The release of Spider-Punk #1 is scheduled for April 2022. The main cover of the issue was designed by Olivier Coipel, but a variant cover by Todd Nauck is also planned. We share both covers below.
